Many people might have gone on a Crusade because the Christian Church promised them that if they died on a Crusade they would go straight to heaven. At this time, most people in England would have been religious so the guarantee of going to heaven was really good thing. Some sources tell us that monks in the 1300 would describe hell as 'eternal torment' with 'beds more painful than all the nails in the world'. This would encourage people to go on a Crusade.
Lots of different people went to Crusade for lots of different reasons.
1) Monk-Knights= Monk-knights lived like monks, praying several times a day but were also ferocious soldiers, dedicated to winning back Jerusalem.
2)Children = Children would go to Crusade because their parents would want them to go to heaven instead of not going on a Crusade with a chance of going to hell.
3) Common soldiers
